With a Little Help of Artificial Intelligence for the Sake of Radiation Protection
November 6 – 13:30 – 14:30 CET
One can envision significant and exciting opportunities for the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in nuclear medicine. AI applications related to diagnostics, therapy, workflow efficiency, and radiation protection are becoming increasingly integrated into nuclear medicine practice and are expected to continue evolving. In diagnostic nuclear medicine, AI can be of help in improving image quality, quantification, and optimization, while also enabling more accurate assessment of prognosis and treatment response. AI also has an important role in therapeutic nuclear medicine, particularly in the dosimetry workflow supporting personalized radiopharmaceutical therapy, where several steps can benefit from AI-based approaches. However, these opportunities are accompanied by challenges that must be addressed to ensure that nuclear medicine practice becomes safer, more reliable, and more valuable.
